For those wondering about the shape of the festival, here’s the schedule so far for our Spring 2027 festival:
Sheffield
Our festival in Sheffield will run from Thursday 6th until Sunday 9th May 2027. We are currently confirming venues in central Sheffield, a short walk from the train station. It will showcase performances, workshops and conference talks exploring all the different kinds of algorithmic patterns.
- 6th and 7th Daytime – two days of conference talks. Last year things were a bit too compressed with a Friday start, so we’re starting a day earlier, although probably not too early on the Thursday to give people time to travel. These days will be focussed on sharing and exchange through talks and panel sessions, but we may intersperse a performance or two amongst the talks to keep things lively!
- 7th Evening – our opening concert. We had great feedback on last year, with our opening concert of pattern-based music mixing traditional instrumental and algorithmic music performances, so expect something similar this year.
- 8th and 9th daytime – we were really happy that you filled up all ten of our diverse, hands-on workshops last year, so hope to host two days worth this time!
- 8th night – our club night, in a bigger venue this year which will allow us to support a more diverse range of acts, over more than one stage. We will have an area with hands-on pattern-making activities again too.
- 10th evening – we’re working on a fun end to the festival, with a closing party showcasing the messier, punkier side of pattern-based music.
Other Cities
We are hoping to collaborate with partner events in other cities. Stay tuned for info!
Online sessions
We are also planning on online sessions, last year we had online talks and workshops. We’re still deciding on the dates for these, probably towards the end of May 2027. We want this to be a first-class on-line focussed experience. In addition, in-person talks and hopefully performances will be streamed online as well.
